What are some hidden attractions in Berlin?

Berlin is a large city of Germany and it is young, cultural and it has numerous attractions. Tourist favorites such as the Brandenburg Gate and Berlin Wall, Museum Island and the many art galleries are all extremely popular, but the city is rich with gems that are yet to be explored. As tourists Laing et al (2009) suggest, tourism experiences are enriched by finding new palce and in this blog post, we will look at peripherals in Berlin that are worth visiting for some unorthodox experience.

1. It requires a little imagination to turn mountains into fairytales and legends – imagine a mountain with a devil in it!

Teufelsberg is an abandoned American listening station structure which is still located in the outskirts of Berlin and was built in the Cold War period. Though it became still today, as a part of the city it constitutes a man-made hill with a beautiful view of the whole city and a mysterious aura. Explore the painted walls and ceilings of the complex and climb to the roof to get a birds eye view of the city’s skyline.

If you want to enjoy the sun and the sand you should go straight to Badeschiff, an artificial beach built on the River Spree. Unlike some of the other tourist destinations on the list, Wild Water is essentially a swimming pool levitating over water on a barge. Take a swim in the pool or play beach volleyball, sunbath on the sandy coast, or get a flavor at the bar. Badeschiff is a favorite place among people who search for recreation among the density of Berlin’s streets.

4. Berlin Unterwelten – Bunker Tunnel through Berlin

Explore dark history of Berlin with a visit to the Berliner Unterwelten. This organisation provides tours so that the tourist can discover the shuttles, bunkers and tunnels beneath this city. Understand Berlin’s history during the Second World War and after the Cold War war as you travel underground. It’s a wonderful chance to study one more aspect of the city’s past I haven’t heard about before.

5. Mauerpark – Sunday Flea Market & Karaoke

Mauerpark, that was a component of the Berlin Wall death strip has been a public park ever since. On Sundays, it is home to a typical and popular flea market where people can buy vintage products, arts and vendor’s foods. But the main attraction of Mauerpark is the Bearpit Karaoke. Go along with the crowd, on Sundays, in this free and vast open-air theatre and belt out your lungs out. It is good fun and I certainly shall never forget it!

6. C/O Berlin – exhibitions of photography

Situated in a magnificent house of the fifties, C/O Berlin is a gallery focused on contemporary photography. Housed in an industrial building in Midtown Manhattan for a decade now; this contemporary gallery has regularly changing exhibitions of both well-known and up-and-coming photographers making it a photography lover’s paradise. Different perspectives on the diverse world of visual arts and discovering Berlin’s photography through a different lens.

7. Garten der Welt -Gardens of the World

Get out from the concrete jungle and breathe the fresh air in the Gardens of the World or known as the Garten der Welt. This vast area features number of gardens where visitors get to see Chinese, Japanese, Balinese and other gardens among them. Many of these parks are well designed and marvel at the beauty of such parks take a walk, and even have a picnic.
